I'm Still Alive! haha

Well, all I've been doing is posting photos. Thought I'd take a minute to write and let everyone know that I'm alive and well and I've survived my first week of motherhood! haha

I had been in the hospital since April 3rd for my high blood pressure. The bedrest in the hospital seemed to control it and they were able to monitor Connor periodically. The night before I was induced, Connor's heartrate dropped twice. They are still not sure why it happened. If I got up to go to the bathroom, it would drop everytime I came back and crawled in bed. They thought maybe it was a combination of his position and the way I was sitting/laying.

They started my induction at 6am on Monday, April 14th. I was given pitocin through an IV. The contractions started immediately and became pretty strong. But nothing I couldn't handle. Then, they just seemed to slow down and decrease in intensity. The nurse told me that they were giving me the highest level of pitocin and could not give me any more so they were waiting to hear back from my doctor about what to do.

Around 5pm, I had 3 HARD contractions. I told Bobby that if it kept up like that, I would need to get the epidural. Then I started to feel like I was leaking fluid. I told the nurse and she said that I was peeing on myself...yeah right. When she left, I told Bobby I would not lay there and pee on myself! I was mad. Well, she came back in the room with my doctor and my water broke right then. The doc was kinda surprised as I was only 1 cm dialated and she could not feel Connor at all. She told me at that point that I had two options: 1. Continue laboring with the pitocin. She felt that I would labor all night and possibly all day and still not deliver. OR 2. Have a c-section. We discussed it with the doctor and she expressed concern that Connor would not be able to fit if I tried to deliver him. So I elected for the c-section. I did not want to labor all night and day only to have a c-section anyway.

At this point, everything happened so fast! My doc said, "Sounds great. I'm going next door to deliver a baby and when I get back we'll deliver yours". At that point, it was a whirlwind. Bobby was getting dressed in scrubs. And people were coming in and out of my prepping me for surgery.

I thought the whole c-section was incredible. I was calm as can be and was given a spinal in the operating room. Bobby videoed the surgery and I'm so glad he did so that I could see Connor being born! One of the high risk OB nurses that had been with me during my hospital stay came in to assist with the delivery even though she was supposed to be going home. I thought it was soo sweet. I think that's one of the reasons I stayed so calm.

Connor was born at 7:25pm. Bobby went with Connor to the nursery, which was our plan. And I layed there for what felt like forever while they "put me back together." Then, I went to recovery. I was there for a while and there was an issue with getting someone to take me back to my room. Finally they did and I was able to hold Connor about 3 hours after he was born!

The recovery from the c-section has been going wonderfully. In fact, I didn't ask for any pain meds in the hospital but my doc made me take them the next morning. I was up around 9am that next day and taking a shower. From what I hear, I had a great experience compared to some.

So now we are home and it's great to be back here after being in the hospital for so long! My mom is here staying with us for 3 weeks and she is taking care of all of the house work and the feeding. I go outside with her and walk around and show her what to do. It works out well.

Connor is doing great. He weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces on Monday when he went for his 1 week check up. Last night he did great sleeping. He fell asleep around 11pm and then I woke him to nurse every 3 hours and he'd go right back to sleep.

Well, that's a recap of Connor's Birth Story! Look for more photos soon!
